Maoist Center objects to govt alleged plan to remove Kulman Ghising

KATHMANDU: The government is reportedly preparing to remove Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director Kulman Ghising from his position, with a decision possibly being made in Monday evening’s Cabinet meeting.

Energy Minister Deepak Khadka has expressed dissatisfaction with Ghising, accusing him of non-compliance. Sources suggest that the ruling CPN-UML and Nepali Congress have already reached an agreement on his removal.

Khadka has previously made several attempts to remove Ghising, even issuing multiple clarifications.

Recently, he set up his office at the NEA headquarters in Ratnapark, indicating growing tensions. On Sunday, Khadka formally instructed Ghising to remove Bimal Gurung, the chief of the Dudh Koshi Hydropower Project, over alleged criticism of the minister on social media. Ghising, however, refused to comply.

Amid these developments, Maoist Center leader and former minister Devendra Paudel raised the issue in Monday’s parliamentary session.

He strongly objected to the government’s move, questioning why a key figure in eliminating load-shedding and turning NEA profitable should be removed.

Paudel urged the government to honor Ghising instead of dismissing him and emphasized the importance of collecting outstanding electricity dues rather than removing officials.
