Administration bans meat and intoxicants in Pashupati Area during Shivaratri

KATHMANDU: The Kathmandu District Administration Office has prohibited the sale, distribution, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and other intoxicants within and around the Pashupatinath area during Shivaratri.

To ensure a disciplined, dignified, and well-organized celebration of Mahashivaratri 2025, Kathmandu’s Chief District Officer, Rishi Ram Tiwari, has issued an official notice banning the production, sale, transportation, storage, and consumption of these substances.

The notice also includes a warning of legal consequences for anyone found in violation of the ban.

Released on Sunday, the notice states, “To observe Mahashivaratri 2081 in a grand, organized, and respectful manner while maintaining security in the sacred Pashupatinath area and upholding religious and cultural values, the production, sale, transportation, storage, and consumption of meat, alcohol, and intoxicants will be prohibited.”

The notice further emphasizes that any violations will result in action according to current laws.
