Chhath preparations in full swing across Janakpur

DHANUSHA: With the conclusion of the Deepawali festival, preparations are now in full swing for the upcoming Chhath festival in Janakpurdham. As the festival approaches, ponds and lakes across the city are being cleaned and decorated. Several of them have already been fully cleaned.

Chhath, a festival dedicated to the Sun God, is traditionally celebrated with elaborate rituals by the Hindu community in the Terai region, including Janakpur. In recent years, the celebration has gradually spread to other parts of the country as well.

Markets in Janakpur are bustling with shoppers purchasing essential items for the four-day festival.

According to Dr. Bhogendra Jha, former Vice Chair of the Province Policy and Planning Commission of Madhesh Province, sacred water bodies such as Gangasagar, Dhanushsagar, Aragaja Maharasagar, Ratnasagar, Gordhoi, Dasarath Pond, Nocha Pond, Matkoraba Pond, and Dudhamatighat are being cleaned with active participation from the local community.

This year, the Chhath festival will begin on Monday, October 27, and will be observed over four days.
