Three escaped prisoners arrested in Sankhuwasabha



KATHMANDU: Police in Sankhuwasabha have arrested three inmates who had escaped from Nakkhu and Jhumka prisons during the recent Gen-Z protest.

According to Police Inspector Ram Kumar Lamichhane, 41-year-old Narayan Rai of Chainpur Municipality–10 was arrested on Monday from his home. Rai had been serving a sentence at Nakkhu Prison in a theft case.

Similarly, two fugitives from the regional prison in Jhumka, Sunsari, were also captured. They include 31-year-old Subash Tamang of Chainpur–9 and 57-year-old Gombu Sherpa of Chichila Rural Municipality–2. Both had been convicted in attempted rape cases.

While Rai had escaped from Nakkhu Prison, Tamang and Sherpa had fled Jhumka Prison. All three are being prepared to be transferred back to the regional prison in Jhumka by Wednesday, said Rajan Ghimire, chief jailer of Sankhuwasabha District Prison.

Currently, the District Prison in Khandbari houses 131 male inmates, eight female inmates, and two dependent children.
