CAAN unveils budget of over Rs 31 billion

KATHMANDU: The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has allocated a budget of Rs 31.40 billion for the current fiscal year 2082/83 (2025/26).

The authority shared a brief overview of its approved budget and plans during a press conference on Wednesday. Compared to last year’s budget of Rs 34.12 billion, this year’s allocation is down by Rs 2.71 billion.

Despite the overall reduction, the capital expenditure budget has been increased to Rs 12.39 billion, up from Rs 11.52 billion last year. Meanwhile, the operating budget has been slightly reduced to Rs 6.15 billion from Rs 6.52 billion. CAAN has allocated Rs 12.85 billion for financial management.

Speaking at the event, CAAN Director General Pradeep Adhikari said the authority is focusing on increasing capital expenditure while cutting down operational costs. He emphasized the need to revise airport fees and passenger service charges to boost revenue.

Adhikari acknowledged the shrinking financial resources of the authority and expressed commitment to improving resource management. He also noted that efforts are underway to enhance the effective operation of the Gautam Buddha and Pokhara International Airports.
