Supreme Court warns against indecent remarks on judges

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court has ordered the continued detention of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) President Rabi Lamichhane and former DIG Chhabilal Joshi.

The decision was issued by a joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Bal Krishna Dhakal, upholding the previous ruling of the Butwal bench of the High Court.

Alongside the detention order, the Supreme Court also issued a strong warning against making indecent or disrespectful comments about judges and their rulings.

The order states, “During the hearing, the Deputy Attorney General, along with senior advocates and other legal representatives, informed the bench that dishonorable and inappropriate remarks were being made about the judges from the Tulsipur, Butwal bench on social media and other platforms. This has drawn the serious attention of the court.”

The bench emphasized that while constructive criticism of judicial decisions is welcome, deliberate attempts to defame judges or mislead the public could create unnecessary obstacles in the administration of justice.
