Rabi Lamichhane’s hearning continues in Supreme Court today

KATHMANDU: The Supreme Court is scheduled to continue the hearing on the habeas corpus petition filed on behalf of Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairperson Rabi Lamichhane on Friday.

The case, which remained undecided on Thursday after arguments continued on Wednesday, is being heard by a joint bench of Justices Nahakul Subedi and Bal Krishna Dhakal.

The petition, filed by Lamichhane’s wife Nikita Poudel, claims that Lamichhane is being held in custody illegally in connection with the Butwal-based Supreme Cooperative fraud case.

On Friday, lawyers representing the petitioner will complete their arguments, followed by rebuttals from the opposing side. A ruling is expected after the rebuttals conclude.

Earlier on Thursday, senior advocate Raman Kumar Shrestha and other lawyers representing Lamichhane presented their arguments, along with government attorneys.

The petition names the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Rupandehi District Court, and the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court as defendants.

Previously, on April 4, the Butwal bench of the Tulsipur High Court ordered Lamichhane to be remanded in custody for trial in connection with the cooperative fraud case.
