Contributory health insurance system needed, Minister Paudel says

DANG: Minister for Health and Population Pradip Paudel has said that the first priority of the people was health care service.

At a programme organized today by Nepali Congress in Dang district, Minister Paudel stated that contributory health insurance system was needed to address the people’s call for health care services.

Saying that the government alone cannot sustain the insurance service on its own investment, Minister Paudel stressed the need of private sector contribution to support this.

Likewise, the Health Minister reiterated that the health insurance scheme could be made effective by contributing 50 per cent of the total tax collected from tobacco products and alcohol and two percent from the employees working in the government sector and other institutions.

He was of the view that the government proposed the idea of contributory health insurance system as the amount allocated by the government for health insurance increased by at least twofold.
