Press Chautari’s general convention to begin today

BIRATNAGAR: The general convention of Press Chautari Nepal, an organization of CPN-UML-inclined journalists, is set to begin in Biratnagar today.

Prime Minister and CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli is scheduled to inaugurate the event at 11 am.

The three-day convention will be held under the main slogan, “Communication for Prosperity is the Basis of Press Chautari.”

Most of the organization’s office bearers, central members, and representatives have already arrived in Biratnagar for the convention.

It is expected that several leaders from the CPN-UML, the parent party of Press Chautari, along with the general convention representatives, will arrive at the venue today.

General Secretary Hiraman Lama informed that nearly 900 representatives will attend the event.

Arrangements for food and accommodation have been made for the guests, central office bearers, and members since yesterday, while provisions for the representatives are set for today and tomorrow.

General Secretary Lama stated that the convention will focus on discussing the challenges and future plans of the journalism sector and will elect new leadership.

Two candidates have already announced their bids for the position of future chairman of Chautari. The organization’s Vice President Ganesh Pandey and Rajesh Rai are both running for the leadership role.

Although informal candidacies are being announced for other positions, the leadership is striving to form a unanimous selection process.

Current President Ganesh Basnet has emphasized that individuals who seek leadership positions at the convention but have not contributed to the party or organization’s work will not be considered for leadership roles.
