Prohibitory order imposed in Taplejung amid Cable Car dispute

TAPLEJUNG: The Taplejung District Administration Office has announced a prohibitory order following escalating tensions over the Kathmandu-Pathibhara cable car project.

Chief District Officer Netra Prasad Sharma made the announcement public at midnight on Saturday.

According to the notice, the prohibitory order will be enforced in the Taplejung district headquarters, Phungling Bazaar, and the Kaflepati and Baludanda areas of Pathibhara.

The order will take effect from 5 a.m. on Sunday and remain in place until further notice.

The decision comes after violent clashes on Saturday evening between supporters and opponents of the cable car project, which resulted in dozens of local injuries.

The prohibitory order was issued in accordance with Section 6 (3)(a) of the Local Administration Act, 2028, due to the escalating unrest and adverse conditions in the area.
