Schools closed across Kathmandu Valley after little-known student union announces education strike

KATHMANDU: Schools across the Kathmandu Valley have been shut down following the announcement of an education strike by the Janapakshiya Bidhyarthi Union, Nepal, a student group unfamiliar to many.

The student union announced the strike citing an 18-point set of demands. After the strike call, schools were left in confusion over whether to continue operations or close, ultimately leading to the closure of educational institutions across the Valley.

As a result, students and teachers who had already left for school or reached school premises were left in a state of uncertainty.

School operators said the sudden strike announcement created confusion and disrupted regular academic activities. Parents and guardians also expressed concern over the abrupt closure and lack of prior information.

Authorities have yet to issue an official response regarding the strike or clarify measures to ensure the smooth functioning of educational institutions, as the situation continues to affect students and teachers alike.
