Party convention must be held before elections: Gagan Thapa

KATHMANDU: Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa has stated that the party must hold its general convention before the upcoming elections.

Speaking to the media after the Central Working Committee meeting held at the party’s Sanepa office on Saturday, Thapa said the party must enter the elections with new policies and leadership, making a pre-election convention essential.

He added that due to limited time, a regular general convention would not be possible, leaving a special general convention as the only option.

Thapa stressed that the party cannot refuse to hold either the periodic convention by the mid-January or the special general convention by mid-December. He clarified that the meeting scheduled for November 27 will decide between conducting the periodic convention within mid-January, 2026 or holding the special general convention by the second week of December.

He also mentioned that efforts are being made to reach consensus on the matter of the convention.
