GenZ group files complaint against PM Sushila Karki, demands legal investigation

KATHMANDU: A faction affiliated with the GenZ Movement has lodged a formal complaint demanding a legal probe against Prime Minister Sushila Karki, accusing her of seizing power unconstitutionally and betraying the spirit of the GenZ uprising.

According to the group, Rabi Kiran Hamal submitted a letter addressed to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) on Tuesday, calling for immediate investigation into what they described as Prime Minister Karki’s unlawful rise to power.

The letter accuses Karki of devaluing the sacrifices made by the youth during the GenZ rebellion and alleges that her assumption of office violated both the constitution and the people’s mandate. It brands the act as a betrayal of the nation and a violation of established legal traditions.

The group also claims that Karki’s cabinet includes individuals involved in corruption, maintaining improper ties with donor agencies, and displaying insensitivity toward the sacrifices made during the movement. Furthermore, the letter accuses her government of protecting those responsible for ordering crackdowns on innocent protesters and reintroducing such figures into active politics.

Hamal further writes that during her tenure as Chief Justice, Karki made judicial appointments based on political affiliation, thereby undermining the independence of the judiciary.

The group has urged law enforcement to arrest Prime Minister Karki immediately and conduct an impartial, transparent, and public legal investigation.
