PM Karki urges national cooperation for free and fair elections

KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) Sushila Karki has appealed for cooperation from all sectors to ensure the successful conduct of the upcoming elections scheduled for March 5, 2026.

She made this appeal while addressing a program organized at Mangal Bazaar in Lalitpur on the occasion of Nepal Sambat 1146.

Emphasizing that the government is committed to creating a conducive environment for the people to exercise their voting rights, the Prime Minister called on citizens to fulfill their responsibility as conscious participants in democracy.

“The government has a responsibility to address the call for good governance raised by the Gen-Z movement, in line with the Constitution of Nepal,” she said. “All levels, sections, and classes of society have an equal role to play. Let us cooperate and act as aware citizens.”

Prime Minister Karki reaffirmed that the government is fully committed to ensuring a free and fair election on March 5, 2026 to strengthen democracy, safeguard economic progress, and uphold civil liberties.

She expressed confidence that all political parties, communities, and groups would support and cooperate in this national endeavor.

On the occasion, she extended best wishes, drawing inspiration from the path of social unity, sacrifice, and humanity shown by national figure Shankhadhar Sakhwa.

Recalling that 1,146 years ago, during the reign of King Raghavdev, Shankhadhar liberated people from poverty by waiving their debts, Prime Minister Karki said his historic decision marked the beginning of Nepal Sambat.
