Maoist Center holding Central Committee meeting from September 25

KATHMANDU: The Central Committee meeting of the Maoist Center is scheduled to begin from September 25. The party’s office bearers, during a meeting held on Sunday, called for the Central Committee meeting to start on that date.

Ganeshman Pun, Chief Secretary of the party office, informed the central members that the exact place and time of the meeting will be decided later.

It may be noted that Maoist Centre Chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ on Sunday proposed holding the party’s special general convention in December and dissolving all party committees from the central to local level.

In the party office bearers’ meeting, Prachanda said the current political context demands a special convention to elect a new leadership.

“The situation is special. Let’s hold a special general convention and elect a new leadership,” he said during the one-hour-long meeting.

As per the process, the office bearers’ meeting will forward Prachanda’s proposal to the Central Committee for endorsement. Once approved, all existing party structures — from the grassroots to the central level — will be dissolved, and a General Convention Organizing Committee will be formed.

The committee will be tasked with organizing the special general convention in December.

Prachanda had also proposed calling an emergency meeting of the Central Committee within a week to formally initiate the process.
