MYAGDI: The Beni to Arthunge to Purundi section of the Beni-Arthunge-Pulachaur Road Project in Myagdi has been paved, connecting settlements in Beni Municipality-6, 5, and Ward No. 1 of Mangala Rural Municipality with the district headquarters, Beni.
The six-kilometer stretch from Beni to Purundi via Arthunge-Baansbot-Ekpate-Abechaur has been graded and blacktopped, according to Beni Municipality Chief Surat KC.
“The road project linking Beni to Pulachaur via Arthunge is a priority phased plan of Beni Municipality,” he said. “For the fiscal year 2025/26, Rs. 16.25 million has been allocated to upgrade the road from Purundi to Pulachaur.”
In the previous fiscal year 2025/25, Beni Municipality implemented two projects for upgrading the Beni-Arthunge-Pulachaur road. Until last year, slopes and blacktop were constructed from Beni to Arthunge via Beni Municipality-6, Bansbot.
Beni Municipality technician Milan KC stated that 426 meters of premix blacktop, 130 meters of slopes, and 190 meters of concrete drains were built in the Ekpate and Abechaur areas as part of a project awarded a contract worth Rs. 6.267 million.
Under the Road Board program, a contract worth Rs. 6.879 million was signed to construct 232 meters of slopes, 150 meters of concrete drains, walls in the Purundi section, and complete the remaining 72 meters of premix blacktop.
Before paving and slope construction, the road was widened and retaining walls were built along drains and corners. Previously, the road was four meters wide; after expansion, it has been widened to seven meters.
Bishnu Dutta Sharma, a resident of Ekpate, expressed his satisfaction with the upgrade, saying, “It has been about two decades since the road was opened, and now travel time from Ekpate to Beni has reduced from 40 minutes to just 10 minutes. We are amazed to travel safely on a clean, dust- and mud-free road.”
Locals have called for regular transport services on the upgraded road and for fair fare adjustments. The municipality has assured that new fare rates have been set for the new fiscal year in coordination with the District Administration Office, responding to the demands of the community.
