Minister Khadka insists on proper utilisation of water resources



KATHMANDU: Minister for Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation, Dipak Khadka, has highlighted the importance of water resources for our daily life and the country’s prosperity.

Inaugurating the first National Water Conference -2081 BS organised by the Water and Energy Commission Secretariat here on Saturday, the Minister stressed the need of proper utilisation of water resources.

The event was coordinated by the Federation of the National Irrigation Water Users’ Association, Nepal.

The government is focused on the preservation of water along with the management of water-induced challenges, he added, seeking wider support from the citizens’ level to protect water and its resources.

The rivers and glaciers originated from the mountain range have created the bases for country’s energy, agriculture, tourism and bio-diversity.

The two-day Conference is to be focused on exploring ways to achieve prosperity with the preservation of glaciers, integrated water resources management, water good governance and people’s participation, trans-national cooperation, service delivery from comprehensive projects, multiple use of water resources and climate change, agricultural productivity, drinking water and sanitation,  and the utilisation of water resources.

Improvements in water administration and policy reforms are also the agenda of the Conference, according to Commission’s Secretary Madhu Prasad Bhetuwal.
