Four Nepalis killed in road accident while returning from Kumbh Mela
A road accident in Uttar Pradesh, India, has claimed the lives of four Nepali pilgrims returning from the ongoing Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, while six others were injured.
The accident occurred late at night on Gorakhpur Link Road. The deceased have been identified as 65-year-old Parshuram Chaudhary and 64-year-old Lilawati Chaudhary from Kanchanrup Municipality-7, 55-year-old Hariharwati Yadav from Ward No. 5, and her sister-in-law, Samatoliya Devi Yadav, from Sunsari’s Kushaha Rural Municipality-1.
Among the injured are Lilawati’s husband, Upendra Narayan Chaudhary, a teacher at Lakshminarayan Secondary School in Kanchanrup-1, as well as Lalu Devi Yadav, Jitu Yadav, Mukesh Yadav, Upendra’s brother-in-law from Udayapur, and the driver. They are receiving treatment at a hospital in Gorakhpur.
20 KIIT students return home via Kakarbhitta border point
Twenty Nepalis studying at Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT), Odisha, India, have returned home via Kakarbhitta border point.
Bijay Chauhan, an officiating spokesperson at the District Police Office, Jhapa, informed that number of Nepalis studying at KIIT and now returning home via the border point since February 18 has reached 20. They are entering Nepal every day.
Those to return home are Sulabh Paudel, 20, and Ayush Adhikari, 20, from Pokhara-8; Samip Paudel, 21, from Kathmandu-1o; Akash Shah, 20, from Mahalaxmi, Lalitpur; Puyush Shah, 20, from Kathmandu-13; and Bikesh Shrestha, 20, from Gokarneshwor-7, Kathmandu.
First Lady Shakya comes up with autobiography ‘Karuna’
Prime Minister KP Oli’s spouse, Radhika Shakya, has come up with an autobiography, ‘Karuna’.
The book was released jointly by CPN UML’s Deputy Secretary General Pradeep Gyawali, litterateur Amar Neupane, and Buddhist priest Ani Chhoing Dolma amidst a programme where PM Oli was the Chief Guest.
The book was released on the occasion of 37th marriage anniversary of PM Oli and his spouse Shakya amidst a function in the federal capital, Kathmandu, today.
Swayambhu Festival begins
The weeklong Swayambhu Festival has begun under the initiation of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Ward No. 15 to promote local identity and opportunities.
The festival aims to highlight the area’s natural beauty, religious and cultural heritage, traditions, and ancient monuments, including temples, stupas, monasteries, and historic structures.
Key attractions include local food stalls, health check-ups, blood donation drives, Ranjana script writing, portrait painting, cultural performances, and recreational activities. Kathmandu Mayor Balendra Shah inaugurated the festival.
Private sector calls for cooperation to meet Nepal’s electricity target
Private energy entrepreneurs in Nepal have called for strong cooperation to help the government achieve its target of generating 28,500 megawatts of electricity in the next 10 years.
They believe that creating an environment for investing in hydropower projects through crowd financing is necessary to support the implementation of the ‘Energy Development Roadmap and Action Plan, 2025’ and to attract more investment.
The Independent Power Producers Association of Nepal (IPPAN) has urged the Public Accounts Committee of the Federal Parliament to address issues affecting the energy sector.
