KATHMANDU: Ambassador of the People’s Republic of China to Nepal, Chen Song, paid a farewell call on Speaker of the House of Representatives Devraj Ghimire today.

The meeting, held at the Speaker’s office in Singha Durbar, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, expanding economic and development cooperation, and other key issues.

Speaker Ghimire expressed his gratitude to Ambassador Song, who is returning home after successfully completing his term, and praised his contributions to enhancing Nepal-China relations, promoting economic development cooperation, and strengthening parliamentary ties between the two countries.

During the meeting, Speaker Ghimire highlighted that the 70th anniversary of Nepal-China diplomatic relations was celebrated throughout the year. He noted that the various programs organized by both sides in 2025 had taken bilateral ties to a new height.

He described Nepal and China as good neighbors, close friends, and reliable partners, emphasizing that relations are guided by the five principles of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, cooperation, and understanding.

Speaker Ghimire reiterated Nepal’s full commitment to the One-China principle and assured that no activities against China’s interests would be allowed on Nepali soil.

The Speaker also appreciated the support provided by Chinese leadership in transforming Nepal from a landlocked to a land-linked country. He noted that regular visits and dialogues between delegations of the Nepal-China parliaments have further broadened and strengthened bilateral relations.

Speaker Ghimire expressed Nepal’s gratitude for the development assistance received from China and stressed the need to implement the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) agreement and other development projects at the earliest.

Ambassador Song said that China has given high priority to Nepal in its diplomatic relations. He highlighted that during his tenure, significant progress had been made in implementing agreements reached during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s 2020 visit.

Ambassador Song added that while people-to-people relations between Nepal and China are strong, economic ties still have room for growth. He recalled the recent workshop on Nepal-China economic cooperation and investment and noted that many Chinese businessmen have shown interest in investing in Nepal.
