Mahesh Basnet says National Volunteer Force is UML’s volunteer and resistance organization

KATHMANDU: CPN-UML leader Mahesh Basnet has said that the National Volunteer Force (NVF) is a volunteer and resistance organization of the party.

Speaking at a rally organized in Kathmandu’s Babarmahal area on Friday, held ahead of UML’s formal announcement of the NVF, Basnet claimed the organization was necessary to prevent incidents similar to those seen during the Gen-Z movement, when arson took place at the Parliament building, Supreme Court, Singha Durbar, commercial institutions, and even private residences.

He stated that the NVF will focus its activities on restoring public confidence, which he said had declined following the rise in insecurity, unrest, and the incidents of September 8 and 9.

Basnet further said the volunteer force aims to free people from insecurity, support security agencies, and assist in relief and rescue efforts during natural disasters.

On Friday, youths gathered at Maitighar Mandala and marched to New Baneshwor before heading to Karki Banquet in Babarmahal, where the rally concluded with a mass meeting.

According to UML, the National Volunteer Force will have one commander and two assistant commanders.
