Madhav Kumar Nepal tells govt to build trust with parties ahead of elections

KATHMANDU: Unified Socialist Chair Madhav Kumar Nepal has urged the government to consult political parties and leaders closely to ensure credible and orderly elections.

Speaking to the media on Tuesday during a Deusi-Bhailo program in Kathmandu, Chairman Nepal said his party would cooperate to make the upcoming polls transparent and dignified, emphasizing the need for the government to engage all stakeholders in the process.

He also highlighted the importance of broad political discussions to improve and refine federalism through constitutional amendments. “The constitution can be strengthened, and federalism can be perfected through inclusive dialogue,” he said.

Nepal appealed to all political actors not to treat every party or leader as the same, stressing that previous governments’ failure to seriously address issues such as good governance, corruption, and Gen-Z youth demands had led to street protests and unfortunate incidents.

He called for a thorough investigation into the infiltration and violence that occurred during the Gen-Z movement, urging that those responsible face strict action. He also condemned the use of firearms during the protests, insisting that these acts must be properly probed.

“The constitution and democracy must not be threatened under any circumstances,” Nepal said, underlining the need for accountability and adherence to constitutional principles.
