Mahabir Pun likely to join Karki-led cabinet as Minister

KATHMANDU: Innovator Mahabir Pun is likely to join the cabinet led by Prime Minister Sushila Karki. Following discussions, Prime Minister Karki has agreed to induct Pun into her council of ministers. He is expected to be appointed as the Minister for Science and Technology.

However, as the Ministry of Science and Technology currently also oversees Education, it remains unclear whether Pun will be given charge of both portfolios or only the science and technology.

Pun is the founder of the National Innovation Center and is widely recognized for his contributions to rural development through technology. He was awarded the prestigious Ramon Magsaysay Award for his efforts in bringing wireless internet to remote areas of Nepal.

In addition to Pun, a representative from the Dalit community is also expected to be appointed to the cabinet. At present, Prime Minister Karki is leading a four-member cabinet. Efforts are underway to expand the cabinet further, with significant involvement from Home and Law Minister Om Prakash Aryal.

Karki was appointed Prime Minister following the success of the Gen-Z movement. The first cabinet meeting was held last Sunday, during which three ministers were appointed.
