Bhandari calls for review of UML’s continuous participation in govt.

KATHMANDU: Former President and former CPN-UML Vice Chair, Bidya Devi Bhandari, has said it is time to review the CPN-UML party’s continuous participation in government.

Speaking at the inauguration of her contact office in Thapagaun, Kathmandu, on Thursday, Bhandari, who is attempting to return to active party politics, raised concerns about UML’s long-standing role in successive governments.

“After the 2046/47 People’s Movement, UML joined the interim government. Since then, the party has continuously taken part in governments formed after the 2050 elections,” she said. “But joining a government means working according to the party’s principles and policies. Did we truly succeed in doing so?”

Bhandari stressed that UML’s guiding principle is the People’s Multiparty Democracy, and said it was time to assess whether the party has adhered to its spirit.

“We have often spoken about different sectors such as economic, social, cultural. But have we truly delivered? I believe the time has come for a thorough review,” she added.

She further emphasized the need for ideological reflection to guide society forward. “I am a member of UML. Based on the principles I have embraced, I must act accordingly. If distortions and malpractices are spreading within the party, I will continue to fight against them,” Bhandari said.
