Bidya Devi Bhandari declares lifelong dedication to UML

KATHMANDU: Former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has confirmed her ongoing commitment to the UML, stating that she will continue to work as a party activist.

Speaking at the inauguration of the contact office of the Madan Bhandari Foundation’s Diamond Jubilee Committee on Thursday, Bhandari also addressed questions regarding her party membership raised by Chyasal.

“I became a member of the CPN (Marxist–Leninist) in 1980 and have held UML membership for 35 years. I remain a dedicated activist of the party,” she said.

Highlighting her tenure as president, Bhandari said she has always remained accountable and is not outside the sphere of criticism. “It is now time to assess whether UML has been able to function according to the essence of people’s multiparty democracy,” she added.

She stressed that the party must conduct self-evaluation to determine if it has been able to implement policies in line with public expectations and party principles, noting the UML’s continuous participation in government since 1993.

“I will continue to fight against distortions and inconsistencies within the party. I will remain active as long as Nepal exists,” Bhandari says.
