House committee passes Land-Related Bill despite opposition reservations

KATHMANDU: The Agriculture, Cooperative, and Natural Resources Committee of the House of Representatives on Thursday endorsed the bill to amend certain Nepal Acts related to land.

The meeting, held at Singha Durbar, passed the bill based on a majority vote. Lawmakers from the CPN (Maoist Centre) and Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), however, argued that further deliberations were necessary before endorsement.

Ruling party lawmakers countered that the bill had already undergone extensive discussions and needed to be passed without further delay.

Following the endorsement, ruling party members signed the bill, while lawmakers from the Maoist Centre and RSP walked out without signing.

Committee Chairperson Kusum Devi Thapa urged dissenting members to register their differing opinions in writing and sign the bill, even if they disagreed with its provisions.
