Private school owners protest over School Education Bill exclusions

KATHMANDU: Private school owners and principals staged a protest at Maitighar on Thursday, expressing their dissatisfaction over the exclusion of their demands from the report on the School Education Bill.

Carrying black banners, the demonstrators assembled at the Maitighar roundabout, placing their banners directly on the road. Despite announcements over microphones requesting that the banners not be removed, teachers continued to pick them up as the protest progressed.

The demonstrators later organizkhed a rally from New Baneshwor Chowk back to the Maitighar roundabout, where a corner meeting was held.

The protest was organized by the National Private and Boarding Schools Organization (N- PABSON), the Private and Boarding Schools Organization (PABSON), and the Higher Institutions School Association of Nepal (HISAN), who had announced their action plan in a press conference on Wednesday.

The school owners and principals demanded that the provisions in the School Education Bill report requiring private schools to provide up to 15 percent full scholarships and gradually convert private schools into non-profit institutions be removed.
