Madhes Province leads nation in brick production: Chief Minister Singh

JANAKPURDHAM: Madhes Province Chief Minister Satish Kumar Singh has said that Madhes is the country’s leader in brick production.

Speaking at the inauguration of the second convention and third general assembly of the Nepal Brick Industry Federation (Madhes Province) in Janakpurdham, Singh highlighted the province’s key role in producing not only bricks but also sugarcane, mangoes, fish, and rice.

He noted that out of approximately 1,300 brick industries across Nepal, about 700 are located in Madhes Province, with over 320 currently in operation. Singh urged brick manufacturers to comply with the minimum standards set by the provincial government.

Criticizing the federal government, Chief Minister Singh said Madhes Province generates one of the highest revenues in the country but does not receive a proportional share of the national budget. He also called on local governments to share taxes with the province as mandated by law.

“Municipalities collect taxes from exports, imports, riverbed materials, and entertainment, but the provincial government has yet to receive the 40 percent share it is entitled to. Without support from the central and local governments, how can the province function?” he questioned.

The event was chaired by Federation President Sanjeev Sah and attended by Janakpurdham Sub-metropolitan Mayor Manoj Kumar Sah, Arun Pradhan, a central member of the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI), and other stakeholders.
