SARLAHI: At least 10 people, including two police personnel, were injured in a clash that broke out on Saturday morning over a road expansion project in Khairwa Tole of Barahathawa Municipality-4.
The dispute erupted when two groups confronted each other during the ongoing road widening work.
According to the District Police Office, tensions quickly escalated into stone-pelting. In an attempt to control the situation, police were forced to resort to baton charge and fired a round into the air, said acting police spokesperson Balishter Singh.
Among the injured are Police Inspector Diwakar Ganesh, who sustained injuries to his right arm, and Constable Prameshwar Ray Yadav, who suffered a head injury. Both are being treated at the Barahathawa Municipal Hospital.
Civilians injured in the clash include Tika Bahadur Karki (50), Kul Bahadur Karki (52), Sanjay Kushwaha (35), Ramesh Mahato (42), Indu Devi (38), Pradeep Kushwaha (26), Anil Kushwaha (28), and Umesh Mahato (35).
Of the injured, Tika Bahadur and Kul Bahadur Karki were referred to Kathmandu for advanced treatment following initial care at Barahathawa. The rest are being treated at local hospitals.
Police have taken seven individuals into custody for their alleged involvement in the clash. Authorities say an investigation is underway, and security has been heightened in the area to prevent further violence.
