Dawartol Drinking Water Project completed ahead of schedule

SIRAHA: The Dawartol Drinking Water Project in Dhangadhimai Municipality–13, Siraha, has been completed 20 days ahead of schedule, marking a rare example of timely infrastructure delivery in the region.

The project, with a total cost exceeding Rs 100 million, was implemented under the Federal Drinking Water and Sewerage Management Project, Janakpur.

An agreement for the project was signed with a two-year completion timeline. However, construction wrapped up earlier than expected, much to the satisfaction of local authorities and residents.

Dhangadhimai Mayor Shiva Shankar Mahato hailed the project as exemplary, highlighting the contrast with other drinking water initiatives in the municipality that have been stalled or deteriorated due to delays.

“I’m genuinely surprised and proud. Completing this project ahead of time has set a positive example. It sends a strong message about the importance of completing other under-construction projects without delay,” he said.

Mayor Mahato also noted growing public frustration with the politicization of basic infrastructure projects and their frequent association with political prestige.

The Dawartol-Nainapurtol Drinking Water and Sanitation Consumers’ Committee played a crucial role in ensuring the timely completion of the project.

Committee Chair Shravan Thakuri stated, “We actually finished the work last Jestha and even began trial water distribution to consumers then. This success is the result of continuous dedication, community activism, and hard work.”

With a total investment of Rs 106.58 million, the project will benefit 1,447 households across Wards 13, 12, and 11 of Dhangadhimai Municipality.
