KATHMANDU: The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police has initiated an investigation into Durga Prasai, a key figure behind the March 28 pro-monarchy protest in Tinkune, Kathmandu, over suspicious financial transactions.
Acting CIB Chief Chandra Kuber Khapung stated that a formal investigation is underway after Nepal Rastra Bank flagged unusual activities in Prasai’s financial accounts and requested a probe.
Following the central bank’s request, the CIB obtained permission from the District Court to arrest Prasai and carry out further investigation.
He is currently being held at the District Police Complex in Kathmandu, where authorities are interrogating him as the alleged mastermind behind the Tinkune unrest.
The police have also secured court approval to investigate Prasai under charges including crimes against the state, criminal mischief, and organized crime.
Sources indicate that authorities are preparing to extend the investigation to include potential links to the illegal arms trade and alleged involvement in orchestrating violence.
