Nepali leaders visit Yogi Adityanath amid controversy over photo in pro-monarchy rally

Several Nepali political leaders have recently visited Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath in Lucknow, despite controversy surrounding a photo of Adityanath carried during a pro-monarchy rally in Kathmandu on February 9.

The rally, organized by the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) and Durga Prasai, aimed to welcome former King Gyanendra Shah back to Kathmandu.

Pradeep Bikram Rana, a pro-monarchy activist, carried a photo of both Adityanath and the former king. This act drew criticism, with many questioning the political motives behind associating the Indian leader with the pro-monarchy movement.

Prachanda clarifies he will not pursue Prime Minister’s post until 2027

Maoist Center Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal has clarified that he is not currently seeking the position of Prime Minister and has no intention of doing so until 2027.

Speaking at a press conference in Birgunj, organized by Press Center Nepal, Dahal stated that his focus is on the ongoing efforts to promote economic development and good governance, rather than any aspirations for the top political office in the near future.

Public Account Committee to settle complaints within 15 days

The Public Account Committee (PAC) of the House of Representatives has announced its decision to investigate 48 complaints and conclude the process within 15 days.

During a meeting held on Tuesday, PAC Chair Rishikesh Pokharel stated that the committee would form seven thematic task forces to study the complaints.

He added that the committee secretariat would seek feedback from relevant authorities within seven days, and the final decision would be made within the stipulated time frame.

Three bills tabled in the National Assembly

Three bills were tabled in the National Assembly today, focusing on economic reform, privatization, and fiscal responsibility.

National Assembly Secretary Dr. Surendra Aryal presented the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Economic and Business Environment Reform and Investment Promotion, 2024, alongside the Privatization (First Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (First Amendment) Bill, 2024.

Nagarik Unmukti Party moves toward unification with Janmat Party, CK Raut likely to chair

The Nagarik Unmukti Party is moving toward a formal unification with the Janmat Party, led by Dr. CK Raut.

The decision to unify comes after resolving internal disputes, especially between party chairperson Ranjita Shrestha and founder Resham Lal Chaudhary. The unification will likely result in Dr. CK Raut becoming the new party chairperson.

National Assembly passes resolution to end menstrual discrimination

The National Assembly has passed a resolution on ending menstrual discrimination for dignified menstruation and directed the government to take necessary measures for its implementation.

National Assembly Chair Narayan Prasad Dahal announced that the government has been instructed to enforce the resolution effectively. He also directed the concerned thematic committee to monitor the progress of its implementation.

RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane challenges bail order in Patan High Court

Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has filed a petition at the Patan High Court against the Kathmandu District Court’s order that required him to post a bail of Rs 6 million.

The order was issued on January 16 by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari in connection with the alleged misappropriation of savings from the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

Mahayagya controversy: Siraha’s CDO transferred to Home Ministry

The Ministry of Home Affairs has transferred Basudev Dahal, the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Siraha district.

The Home Ministry has appointed Bishwaprakash Aryal, the Chief District Officer of Kapilvastu, as the new CDO of Siraha. Home Minister Ramesh Lekhak has directed the police to conduct an independent investigation into the removal of Dalit families to facilitate the Mahayagya in the district.

Thousands rally behind MP Gyanu Basnet’s call to dismiss Energy Minister

Thousands of people have expressed their support for MP Gyanu Basnet’s demand to dismiss Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka from his post.

Speaking at the House of Representatives on Thursday, MP Basnet accused Minister Khadka of instilling fear among the public by spreading misinformation about load shedding.

Following her statement, Khabarhub, sought public feedback on the issue through its social media platform. As of 12 noon on Friday, more than 7,500 people had responded to the poll on Facebook, with over 99 percent of respondents expressing their support for MP Basnet’s demand.

Gold price drops in domestic market

Gold prices have fallen in the local market on Friday. After setting a record high since Tuesday, the price of gold has dropped by Rs 1,000 per tola today, according to the Nepal Gold and Silver Dealers Federation.

The Federation reports that gold is currently being traded at Rs 175,000 per tola, down from Rs 176,000 yesterday.

PM Oli presents Prime Minister’s National Talent Award to various personalities

The Government of Nepal today honored individuals from diverse fields with the Prime Minister’s National Talent Award, recognizing outstanding contributions in areas such as peace, good governance, innovation, scientific discovery, research, and social development.

The award ceremony, held in Kathmandu, was attended by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, First Lady Radhika Shakya, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Urban Development Prakash Man Singh, among other dignitaries.

KUKL managing water supply in Kathmandu Valley from 13 ponds

Kathmandu Upatyaka Khanepani Limited (KUKL) has set up a new water distribution network by utilizing ponds located at 13 different sites across the Kathmandu Valley.

Tika Bahadur Chaudhary, Chief of the Melamchi Drinking Water Project Implementation Directorate, stated that the new arrangement was designed to distribute water brought from the Melamchi River in Sindhupalchowk in a more balanced manner.

Govt targets clean drinking water for 57% of population within a year

Minister for Water Supply Pradeep Yadav has announced that the government has set a target to provide clean drinking water to 57% of the country’s population within the next year.

Addressing lawmakers’ questions during the National Assembly meeting on Friday, Minister Yadav informed that the current access to clean drinking water stands at 27%.

Two youths die, four injured in Myagdi tractor accident

Two youths have died and four others have been injured in a tractor accident in Myagdi.

The accident occurred last evening when a tractor (Ga 1 Ta 7196) overturned in Dhawalagiri Rural Municipality-2, Lulang, according to the District Police Office of Myagdi.

The victims were identified as local residents Devin BK, 18, and Purnalal Rasaili, 21.

Kathmandu Metropolis offering free breast and cervical cancer screening from March 25

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has announced a new initiative to provide free screening and initial treatment for breast and cervical cancer starting from March 25.

To avail of the service, individuals must first register their details at the nearest Health Promotion Center.

After registration, they will receive a referral ticket, which they can take to the ground floor of the Bir Hospital Surgical Building for testing.
