Three bills tabled in the National Assembly

KATHMANDU: Three bills were tabled in the National Assembly today, focusing on economic reform, privatization, and fiscal responsibility.

National Assembly Secretary Dr. Surendra Aryal presented the Bill to Amend Some Nepal Acts Related to Economic and Business Environment Reform and Investment Promotion, 2024, alongside the Privatization (First Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Financial Procedures and Fiscal Responsibility (First Amendment) Bill, 2024.

These bills, which were received from the House of Representatives, aim to streamline various aspects of Nepal’s business environment and financial processes.

The Economic and Business Environment Reform bill seeks to improve Nepal’s investment climate, while the Privatization Amendment Bill addresses changes related to the privatization of state-owned enterprises.

The Fiscal Responsibility Bill aims to enhance fiscal discipline and responsibility in the country’s financial management.

The bills were presented by Minister for Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung on behalf of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli, who was unable to attend the session.

The session was briefly adjourned for 15 minutes after a point of order raised by MP Renu Chand regarding a conflict between the National Assembly Rules and the House of Representatives Rules.

Despite the brief interruption, the bills are now expected to be discussed further in the coming sessions.
