RSP Chair Rabi Lamichhane challenges bail order in Patan High Court

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chair Rabi Lamichhane has filed a petition at the Patan High Court against the Kathmandu District Court’s order that required him to post a bail of Rs 6 million.

The order was issued on January 16 by Judge Madhav Prasad Adhikari in connection with the alleged misappropriation of savings from the Swarnalakshmi Cooperative in Kalimati, Kathmandu.

Expressing dissatisfaction with the bail demand under Section 68 of the Criminal Procedure Code, Lamichhane has sought to have the case tried on a regular date under Section 69 by filing the petition under Section 73.

As news of Lamichhane’s planned court appearance spread, RSP cadres gathered outside the court in support.

Addressing the crowd, Lamichhane remarked that his time to speak would come soon, hinting that his statements would shake the two-thirds government formed by the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML. He urged his supporters to prepare for a revolution, claiming that dissatisfaction among the people is growing.

Lamichhane also criticized the government, saying that his court appearance was intended to expose the government’s failures. He stressed that the future of the country lies in the hands of the youth, calling on them to get serious about the nation’s direction.

In addition to the current case, Lamichhane is also facing legal challenges related to the Sahara Cooperative in Chitwan, where he has filed an appeal against the order to release him on bail of Rs 5.4 million.

He has similarly challenged orders from the Kaski and Rupandehi District Courts.
