One held in connection to cooperative’s funds embezzlement



BENI: Police have arrested Lokesh Pun Magar of Beni Municipality-4 on charges of embezzling Rs 1.49 billion from Kumari Multipurpose Cooperative in Beni.

Magar, a former director of the cooperative, was remanded in custody by the District Court Myagdi on Thursday, with his detention extended until February 25.

According to Police Inspector Sagar Poudel, Magar was arrested on Tuesday and is now in custody along with five other individuals who were previously detained on February 2 in connection with the same case.

The Office of the Cooperative Registrar in Pokhara confirmed that legal action has been initiated against Magar and the other accused under the Cooperative Act-2017.

The embezzlement case involves a significant amount of Rs 1.49 billion, affecting around 6,000 savers associated with Kumari Cooperative.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence against the accused.
