BHAIRAHAWA: Rastriya Swatantra Party Chair and former Managing Director of Gorkha Media Network, Rabi Lamichhane, has arrived in Bhairahawa on Tuesday to appear before the Rupandehi District Court in connection with the Supreme Savings and Credit Cooperative fraud case.

Lamichhane, accompanied by his wife Nikita Poudel, landed in Bhairahawa on Buddha Air flight U4-859 Tuesday afternoon. He is staying at Hotel Marigold ahead of his court appearance.

The supplementary charge sheet filed on January 19 accuses Lamichhane of involvement in embezzling over Rs 40 million from the cooperative.

He will provide his statement to the court on Wednesday, followed by detention hearings to determine the course of judicial proceedings.

The Supreme Cooperative fraud case has implicated 42 individuals, with charges of cooperative fraud, organized crime, and money laundering involving a total embezzlement of Rs 1.43 billion. The cooperative had 1,903 depositors, of whom 1,872 filed complaints with the Butwal Area Police Office.

Previously, Lamichhane was released on bail of Rs 6.5 million and Rs 6 million, respectively, for similar fraud allegations tied to Pokhara’s Suryadarshan Cooperative and Kathmandu’s Swarnalakshmi Cooperative.
