Two ward chairs arrested over attack on Gen-Z youth in Simara

BARA: Police have arrested two local representatives in Simara following an attack on Gen-Z youth on Wednesday.

Dhan Bahadur Shrestha, ward chair of Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City-2, and Kaimuddin Ansari of Ward No. 6 were taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The clash occurred Wednesday morning when local UML workers and Gen-Z activists confronted each other. The tension escalated after Gen-Z members attempted to block the Simara Airport, anticipating the arrival of UML leaders, including General Secretary Shankar Pokhrel, Politburo member Mahesh Basnet, and Bhanubhakta Dhakal, who were heading to participate in a Rastriya Yuwa Sangh program in Parwanipur.

The confrontation turned violent when UML supporters reportedly struck the Gen-Z youth. Police have now taken Shrestha and Ansari, both elected as ward chairs under the UML banner in the 2022 elections, into custody for their alleged involvement.
