Heavy rain in Gandaki; Provincial govt urges caution

GANDAKI: The Gandaki Provincial Government has urged residents across the province, including Pokhara, to remain on high alert following heavy rainfall since last night.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology has warned of continued rain, particularly in Lumle and surrounding areas of Kaski district.

On Sunday morning, the Office of the Chief Minister and Council of Ministers issued a public notice urging the public and all government agencies to exercise maximum caution. The notice advised people to travel only if necessary and to do so with heightened alertness.

“Reports have indicated loss of life and property in various parts of Gandaki Province due to the ongoing rainfall. Water levels in rivers, streams, ravines, and lakes are steadily rising, increasing the risk of floods, landslides, and drowning. Residents in vulnerable areas are strongly advised to remain vigilant,” the statement read.

The provincial government has called on citizens to immediately contact local representatives, police, or relevant provincial and federal authorities in case of a disaster. It also assured the public that the government stands ready to assist in rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts.
