Nepal imports smartphones worth Rs 32 billion and rice worth Rs 19 billion



KATHMANDU: Nepal imported smartphones worth over Rs 32 billion and rice worth nearly Rs 19 billion in the first 11 months of the current fiscal year.

According to data published by the Department of Customs, Nepal imported smartphones valued at Rs 32.08 billion between mid-July 2024 and mid-June 2025. Customs revenue collected from mobile phone imports during this period totaled Rs 5.98 billion.

The figures also show that Nepal imported rice worth Rs 18.95 billion in the same period. Of this, basmati rice accounted for Rs 7.26 billion. In addition to rice, Nepal also imported paddy worth Rs 19.99 billion and paddy seeds worth Rs 1.16 billion.

The fiscal year still has a month remaining, and the final numbers are expected to rise further by the end of the period.
