Budget allocation for infrastructure sector unfair: MP Basnet

KATHMANDU: Shakti Bahadur Basnet, a Member of Parliament from the main opposition party CPN (Maoist Centre), has proposed a symbolic reduction of one rupee in the expenditure allocated to the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport in the Appropriation Bill, 2082.

Presenting the proposal during Friday’s meeting of the House of Representatives, MP Basnet criticized the allocation of the ministry’s budget, stating that despite an overall increase, the distribution was inequitable.

“There is no budget for road infrastructure development in some constituencies. What could be more irresponsible than this?” he said.

“Even funding for major corridors has been cut. While some districts have received infrastructure budgets, others have been completely overlooked. This is clearly unfair.”
