Passenger bus swept away by Binayikhola in Nawalpur

NAWALPUR: A passenger bus carrying 38 people was swept away by the swollen Binayikhola River at Binayi Triveni Rural Municipality-1 in Nawalparasi (East), along the Narayanghat-Butwal section of the East-West Highway.

According to Police Inspector Rajan Timilsena of the Area Police Office, Dumkibas, the bus (registration number Bhe 1 Kha 4085) was en route from Kathmandu to Nepalgunj when it was swept away by floodwaters late Thursday night.

“The river’s flash flood carried away the bus over a newly constructed diversion. We managed to rescue all passengers immediately using an excavator,” Inspector Timilsena said.

The bus was carrying 38 passengers, including three infants.

However, due to continued rainfall in the area, efforts to recover the bus from the river have so far been unsuccessful. The extent of goods lost in the river has yet to be determined.

Meanwhile, traffic along the East-West Highway has come to a complete halt, as heavy rain has turned the road in the Daunne area into a muddy and impassable stretch.
