36 pigs die from African Swine Fever in Sunsari



SUNSARI: An outbreak of African Swine Fever (ASF) has killed 36 pigs in Barahakshetra Municipality of Sunsari district, according to Dr. Manoj Kumar Mahato, chief of the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Expert Centre in Inaruwa.

The infection has been detected in pigs raised for commercial purposes across several farms. At Dhyali Agriculture Farm in Barahakshetra-1, 20 pigs have shown symptoms of ASF, with 17 confirmed deaths. At Barah Pig Farm, 15 pigs are infected and 7 have died. Similarly, at the farm run by local resident Subash Shrestha, 22 pigs are infected, and 12 have died.

In total, 36 pigs have died and 57 more remain infected in Barahakshetra alone, according to Dr. Mahato. Previously, cases of ASF had also been reported in other parts of Sunsari district, including Duhabi, Ramdhuni, and Dharan.
