After release, Gyanendra Shahi says: We beat the drum right in the hearts of the corrupt

KATHMANDU: Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) leader Gyanendra Shahi has said that Sunday’s protest inside Singha Durbar was aimed at striking a blow directly at corrupt power centers.

Shahi and other RPP leaders were arrested earlier in the day for breaking the restricted zone during the party’s protest. They were released in the evening.

“This was not a show of strength by the RPP. We hadn’t even invited well-wishers or nationalists,” Shahi said after his release. “Today, the restricted zone was enforced to silence the people, while the corrupt enjoyed impunity. We had to beat the drum right inside their den – Singha Durbar, in the heart of the corrupt – and that’s exactly what we did.”

He said the protest inside the administrative complex was a symbolic act to challenge the government’s suppression and expose systemic corruption.
