Nepal Teachers Federation calls for nationwide school shutdown

KATHMANDU: The Nepal Teachers Federation has called for a nationwide shutdown of institutional schools, intensifying its ongoing educational strike campaign and urging full participation from teachers and school staff across the country.

In a press release issued today, the federation urged all educational stakeholders to support the movement aimed at pressuring the government to immediately enact the Quality School Education, Student and Teacher-Employee Friendly School Education Act, incorporating all previous agreements made with the teaching community.

“The Kathmandu-centered educational street movement is at its peak. At such a time, it is key for all teachers and school employees to join the movement to make this final and decisive,” the statement reads.

The federation has directed all teachers not to open schools, conduct entrance or grade enhancement exams, check answer sheets, or participate in seminars, educational tours, or any academic programs during the protest period.

It has also called on teachers to boycott the Class 12 board exams scheduled to begin from April 11, further escalating the standoff.

The federation’s appeal extends to parents, students, school management committees, and local governments, requesting their solidarity to ensure the success of the movement.

With tensions rising, the nationwide strike is expected to severely impact the academic calendar and raise further pressure on the government to address long-standing demands related to education reforms, job security, and working conditions in Nepal’s school system.
