RPP to stage protest in Kathmandu today

KATHMANDU: The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) is set to stage a protest in Kathmandu today, calling for the reinstatement of the monarchy and the declaration of Nepal as a Hindu nation.

The party is also demanding the immediate release of senior leaders arrested during the March 28 royalist demonstration in Tinkune.

The protest, planned in a restricted area of the capital, follows a decision made during the RPP Central Working Committee meeting last week.

Senior party figures, including Vice President Rabindra Mishra and General Secretary Dhawal Shamsher Rana, were taken into custody following the violent Tinkune protest that led to two deaths.

The RPP has also announced plans to escalate its movement nationwide, with protest rallies scheduled in all 77 districts on April 23.

In response, the Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a strong warning, urging the RPP to refrain from any anarchic, provocative, or illegal actions that could incite public unrest. The ministry expressed concern over public statements and media reports suggesting the party intends to forcefully enter restricted zones in Kathmandu.

The statement further emphasized that any activities that violate the constitution and disrupt social harmony will be met with legal action.

With tensions running high following the Tinkune incident, security has been stepped up across Kathmandu as authorities brace for potential unrest.
