KATHMANDU: On the first day of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), authorities seized 424 mobile phones from examinees at various examination centers in Rautahat.

The crackdown comes as the administration tightens examination rules to ensure a dignified and fair testing process.

In recent years, students have increasingly used messaging apps such as Messenger, WhatsApp, and Viber to cheat during exams. To curb such practices, security personnel have been deployed at examination centers, and additional precautions have been implemented.

Despite these measures, many examinees attempted to smuggle mobile phones into the exam halls by concealing them. According to the District Police Office, Rautahat, thorough security checks led to the confiscation of the phones.

In a separate incident, an examination invigilator at Shree Yamunamai Secondary School, Jhunkhunwa Examination Center, located in Yamunamai Rural Municipality-5, was arrested on charges of allowing students to bring in mobile phones in exchange for money.

Additionally, another individual was apprehended for providing cheats from outside the Shree Laxminiya Secondary School, Maulapur Examination Center, in Maulapur Municipality-5.

Authorities have withheld the names of both arrested individuals while the investigation continues. The administration has reiterated its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the examination process and has vowed to take strict action against those attempting to undermine it.
