KATHMANDU: Prime Minister (PM) KP Sharma Oli has stated that the government is working to ensure the report of the Eminent Persons Group (EPG), jointly formed by Nepal and India, will be accepted through mutual understanding between both countries.
During a question-and-answer session in today’s meeting of the House of Representatives, PM Oli emphasized that the EPG report would be accepted with the consensus and understanding of both sides.
Responding to a query from lawmaker Buddhiman Tamang, PM Oli said the issue had been raised at the highest levels of the Indian government during previous meetings to acknowledge the EPG report. He added that diplomatic initiatives were ongoing in other areas as well.
The Prime Minister explained that the EPG had agreed to submit its report first to the Prime Minister of India and then to the Prime Minister of Nepal. “We will work towards ensuring both sides accept the report through mutual understanding,” he reiterated.
In response to a question on Nepal’s revised “pointed” map, PM Oli stated that the map reflecting the territory under Nepal’s control before 1962 AD, as shown in the current revised map, represents the reality.
“Until 1960, the map of the country was as it is now, but it was altered afterward. Nepal’s Coat of Arms in Schedule 3 of the Constitution was updated through the second amendment on June 18, 2020,” he explained.
