KATHMANDU: In 2024, a total of 1,081 human rights violations and abuses were reported in the Sudurpaschim Province, according to data released by the Informal Sector Service Center (INSEC) Sudurpaschim Province Office.
The figures were made public at a press conference in Dhangadhi on Wednesday during the launch of the ‘Nepal Human Rights Yearbook 2025.’
INSEC Far West Province Coordinator, Khadkaraj Joshi, revealed that 1,099 people were affected by these violations.
This includes 11 victims—one woman and 10 men—of human rights violations and 1,088 victims—1,054 women and 34 men—of various abuses.
The reported cases include two instances of state-led beatings, six arrests, one death in prison, one death in custody, and one case of inhuman treatment.
Additionally, there were nine murders, 11 injuries, 105 child rights violations, three caste discrimination cases, 947 women’s rights violations, two inhuman treatments, eight beatings, and three instances of intimidation by non-state actors.
Despite the concerning figures, Joshi noted a decline in the number of victims compared to the previous year, with 102 fewer cases reported in 2024 than in 2023.
