KATHMANDU: CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has strongly condemned the group protesting under the name Gen-Z at Simara Airport in Bara, calling their actions criminal, anti-social, and anti-national.
Speaking at an interaction program on “The Role of Local Representatives” organized by the UML’s Local Development Department in Chyasal on Wednesday, Oli said the behavior witnessed in Bara undermined democratic practices, peace, security, and national interest. “These are not social elements; they are anti-social, anti-national, and traitorous elements,” he said.
Oli said the peaceful rally organized by UML on November 22 will demonstrate how peaceful demonstrations should be conducted. He criticized recent rallies limited to looting, vandalism, and arson, calling such actions abnormal.
He also criticized the misuse of the national flag by the protesters, who, according to him, draped it to assert their own identity while committing unlawful acts.
Addressing party discipline and unity, Oli urged all leaders and cadres to remain united during the current sensitive political phase.
“Some members are currently influenced by the opposition and raise internal conflicts. What is meant by internal conflict?” he questioned.
He stressed the need for a strong political force determined to work for the country, warning against overreliance on pride or personal ego. “A party cannot be run like an old-age home,” he said humorously.
Commenting on the current political environment, Oli also mentioned Nepali Communist Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), noting, “Even Prachanda’s own allies are surrounding him, so caution is necessary.”
Oli urged leaders not to falter in the political race and underlined that the responsibility for nation-building must be carried by their own generation.
