Dulal hosts ‘crow conference’ on Kaag Tihar

KATHMANDU: On the occasion of Kaag Tihar, artist Ramesh Dulal, popularly known as ‘Kagay’, hosted the 22nd edition of his annual ‘Crow Conference’ in front of the Narayanhiti Palace Museum in the capital.

The event, jointly organized by Top Rajdhani Rodhi and Green City Hospital Basundhara, featured Dulal’s unique talent for imitating animal sounds—most notably the cawing of crows. As soon as the program began at 5:45 a.m., crows began gathering in response to his lifelike calls.

Dulal possesses a rare ability to mimic the sounds of 173 species of animals and birds, including the crow. He can also reproduce the sounds of traditional and modern musical instruments such as the madal, sahanai, sarangi, piano, drum set, murchunga, and guitar—entirely through vocal imitation.

“It has been 22 years since I began organizing the ‘Crow Conference’ on Kaag Tihar,” Dulal said. “Crows are believed to be messengers of Yamaraj. This year, I’ve held the event purely to promote cultural awareness.”

The audience praised Dulal’s performance and his commitment to preserving the cultural and religious significance of Kaag Tihar. Many also admired his extraordinary vocal abilities and dedication to raising public awareness through art.
