Human trafficking suspect arrested in UAE, repatriated to Nepal



KATHMANDU: Kal Bahadur Basnet, a fugitive wanted in a human trafficking and smuggling case, has been arrested and returned to Nepal.

Basnet, originally from Bafikot Rural Municipality-2 in Rukum West and residing in Gamcha, Kirtipur Municipality-4, had an Interpol red notice issued against him.

The arrest was made in coordination with Nepal’s National Central Bureau (NCB) in Abu Dhabi, UAE. On Monday, he was repatriated to Nepal to face legal proceedings related to the case.

Basnet had remained at large for some time, prompting the NCB Kathmandu to request Interpol’s intervention. In response, Interpol issued the red notice against him on December 26, 2024.

Upon arrival in Nepal, he was handed over to the Human Trafficking Bureau for legal action in accordance with the charges filed against him.
